GARY ABELLARD
Mathematician & Former Aerospace Engineer
At an early age, Gary demonstrated an affinity for numbers and patterns. At SUNY at Buffalo, he earned an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics. He is often mesmerized on how complicated problems are solved with simple solutions, by just looking at the problems from different angles.
After his undergraduate, Gary worked in Houston, Texas for about eight years in the NASA Shuttle program, where he led a team for the design of flight envelopes for several Space Shuttle missions. Flight envelopes refer to the operating boundaries of the Shuttle during flight for nominal and contingency situations. Gary also enhanced his coding skills, and he wrote programs in various computer languages to assist in space flight simulations.
One of the many lessons that Gary has learned during his time there is the importance of anticipating problems and defining a solution before the problem even comes to exist. Although Gary has left the Engineering field, he still relies heavily on the training and projects in which he was involved during the many years.
Gary now serves as a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the global Accounting firms, where he focuses on tax laws.
